If the USB stick is formatted as FAT32, the maximum file size is limited to 4,294,967,295 bytes (~4 GB). This limit is a consequence of the file length entry in the directory table and would also affect huge FAT32 partitions with a sufficient sector size. This could be an issue with JB. I had the same problem on my GS3. On ICS, I can copy HD movies larger than 4 GB to my microSD card (64 GB). But when I flashed one of the JB leaks, this didn't work anymore so I quickly went back to ICS. Big disappointment that the Note II doesn't support UMS mode. MTP is pure garbage.
